How To Read Faster

Many people are looking to learn how to read faster through the use of computer software programs; speed reading software is probably the best option. Software offers more comprehensive methods of learning how to read faster than any other form of help and the interactive exercises and strategies have been proven effective. Speed reading software, therefore, should be considered by anyone looking to learn how to speed read. But there are also manual ways for helping you to read faster.

Note: Denise and I recommend only products that we have tried and tested. These include the popular speed-reading software 7 Speed Reading.* This article was written by a freelance writer commissioned by eReflect software, the maker of 7 Speed Reading.

The hand method is one of the most popular manual methods of learning how to read faster. You use your finger to follow the text and set the pace of your reading. The quicker you move your finger, the quicker your eyes will follow it down the page. It is as simple as that. There is nothing scientific about it but you should bear in mind that your finger needs to move at a comfortable speed for your eyes and comprehension, or else you may fail to take-in the information on the page.

A second method to help you learn how to read faster also involves your hand but it known as the sweep method. You sweep your hand underneath every line as you read it, as if brushing down the page. Keep your fingers together as if they were glued together and then move them down the page as you go. Again, there is nothing scientific in it, and the method varies only from the previous technique in that some experts seem to think that using the whole hand, and indeed the arm, offers a degree of extra focus.

Finally, instead of using a hand, you can use an index card to follow the text. The card should be at least the width of the page and cover the text you are yet to read so you can follow the text downwards. Your eyes only focus on the current text, which theoretically will train you to read faster.

These three methods are simple, and are probably no substitute for the best speed reading software packages, such as 7 Speed Reading, but they can be used in conjunction with those packages. They can also be used to boost your speed reading overall if you are travelling or are pushed for time and cannot use the software.

Just knowing these techniques will give you more options and will help you to figure out how to read faster in the long term.

*Denise and I have agreed to receive a commission from some sales of 7 Speed Reading software because we are happy to endorse this speed reading software.
