There are numerous read faster programs available, from 7-Speed Reading to Ace Reader to Eye Q. So how can you tell the difference between them and decide which one is best for you? Ask the following questions of each program and do a little homework:
How much improvement does the read faster program guarantee? — Most programs fall into one of two categories. They either promise a ridiculous level of improvement, such as 10 times your reading speed, which is just not possible for everyone, or they use terms like “exponentially” and “incredibly” without actually putting a figure on it. Most realistic and effective programs offer twice or three times your current reading speed.
How many learning strategies are included? — There should always be several options in terms of the learning strategies that read faster programs offer. You should always find more than one available, and the more options the better. 7-Speed Reading, for example, offers 7 learning strategies. This means that you are pretty much guaranteed to find one that works for you.
Can you monitor your progress? — You MUST be able to keep track of your improvement because you will otherwise be completely unable to identify where problems are and rectify them. Any read faster software that does not have this should be disregarded as an option.
Does the read faster program focus on your reading speed or does it incorporate other elements? — Of course, every read faster program should focus on speed reading but the best ones also incorporate other elements, such as memory and information retention. These are important skills if you are looking to use speed reading to your own advantage.
Finally, what sort of activity does the read faster program include? — Every decent read faster program will incorporate a wide range of exercises and activities for you to use in order to increase your reading speed. If you do not have several options, then you will soon become bored of using the same one or two over and over. Be sure to have plenty of options so that you can switch them if need be.
As you can see, there are several questions to ask of read faster programs to determine which the best is; but you absolutely should take the time to look into your options. If you do not, then you may well find that you ultimately end up with one that does not work for you.
